The CVMA Guidelines for Veterinary Antimicrobial Use is an online platform intended to support Canada’s veterinarians in making sound decisions on the appropriate and responsible use of antimicrobials in animals. Things to know:
All licensed veterinarians in Canada will be granted access to all content. Subject matter experts were instrumental to the development of the content found on the online platform.
The platform currently covers six species groups but will soon cover eight.
- Searchable interface with filtering capabilities for quicker access to information on antimicrobial use.
- Allows for more frequent information updates and the addition of new resources to ensure it represents the latest in guidance and science-based knowledge.
- Accessible from a variety of devices (e.g. laptop, tablet, smartphone).
- Is currently available in English, and the French platform will be available in the coming months.
The six veterinary species groups were led by:

- Dairy – Dr. Murray Gillies
- Swine – Dr. Christian Klopfenstein
- Small Ruminants – Dr. Paula Menzies
- Companion Animals – Dr. Scott Weese
